The EU-LAC-MUSEUMS project is being run under the auspices of the Museums, Galleries and Collections Institute (MGCI) in the School of Art History in the University of St Andrews. The Museums, Galleries and Collections Institute (MGCI) was set up for research, education and training in cultural heritage, with a particular focus on museums, art galleries and historic houses, and their collections. It is the centre for research activities in museology.
The Research Institute was founded upon the expertise built up over many years from running our Museum and Gallery Studies courses, which have helped to establish St Andrews as Scotland’s leading centre for training and research in the heritage sector. The seaside location of our mediaeval town and university provides a beautiful setting for the study of museums, their history, purpose and contemporary development. Based in the School of Art History, we offer a range of full-time and part-time courses in Museum and Gallery Studies. Taught modules on the Theory and Practice of Museums are balanced with practical projects based either on the museum collections of this 600-year-old university, or at a local museum or gallery. Structured visits are an essential part of the programme and we are well placed for visiting museums, art galleries, historic houses, ships and other heritage sites: https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/arthistory/prospective/pg/mgs/.
Collections are at the heart of museums, and of our museum training. The importance of collections has been recognised in recent research and publications. Collections, in the widest context, are the starting point for the research of the Institute.

The National Archaeological Museum was founded in 1893, joining the past (archeology) and present (ethnography) with the intention of representing "the Portuguese Man". Throughout its history the museum has maintained close ties of collaboration from north to south and still today, it is the most local of all national museums. It is therefore in the best position to support and promote the community movement of museums in Portugal. |

The National Museum of Archaeology (DGPC/MNA) occupies a central place in the EU-LAC-MUSEUMS project, for the creation and maintenance of the technological/innovative support of the project and also for the coordination of communication and dissemination of the project. In addition, like the other partners, the MNA will conduct research into the Portuguese experiences of community museology. |

The main role of the University of València in the EU-LAC-MUSEUMS project focuses on applied research aimed at Entrepreneurship and Innovation for Sustainable Museums. This work will be encompassed in a number of documents, such as an Owned Strategic Planning (OSP) model for the sustainable management of museums; a Model of Integral Management (MIM) for Cultural Heritage; a Method of Evaluation of the Cultural Heritage (MECH); and the design and application of a Geographic Information System (GIS) applied to cultural heritage. |
La función de la Universitat de València en el proyecto EU-LAC-MUSEUMS se centra en la realización de investigaciones aplicadas dirigidas a la Innovación y el Emprendimiento para Museos Sostenibles. Estos trabajos se recogerán en diversos documentos, como son: un modelo de Planificación Estratégica Participada (PEP) destinado a la gestión sostenible de museos, un Modelo Integral de Gestión (MIG) del Patrimonio Cultural, un Método de Evaluación del Patrimonio Cultural (MEPC) y el diseño y aplicación de un Sistema de Información Geográfica (SIG) aplicado al patrimonio cultural. |

ICOM’s network of members is structured in committees working in cooperation. The 119 National Committees ensure that interests of the organisation are managed in their respective countries and contribute to the implementation of the organisation’s programmes. The Regional Alliances are forums designed to promote dialogue among the National Committees of a given region. The 30 International Committees are global think tanks bringing together experts in different museum specialties. |

Museums and Community at ICOM Thanks to its network of museum experts in all specialties, ICOM regularly tackles the topic of museums and community in its worldwide activities including research, publications, conferences and debates. EULAC MUSEUMS project was conceived under the auspices of ICOM in 2014. Another recent initiative is the 2016 Milan cooperation Charter “Ecomuseums and cultural landscape”, which was developed as part of the 2016 ICOM General Conference wich took place in Milan, Italy, by a group of cultural professionals engaged in community -based projects for heritage management, aimed at local development. The Charter seeks to gear the actions of museums towards shared objectives and foster cooperation between ecomuseums and community museums. |
Museos y Comunidad en el ICOM Gracias a su red de expertos de especialidades museísticas, ICOM regularmente aborda el tema de los museos y la comunidad a través El proyecto EULAC MUSEUMS fue concebido bajo los auspicios del ICOM en 2014. Otra iniciativa es la Carta de cooperación de Milano 2016 «Ecomuseos y Paisajes Culturales», fue desarrollada en Conferencia general del ICOM 2016 (Milano, Italia) por profesionales de la cultura comprometidos en proyectos comunitarios de gestión del patrimonio para el desarrollo local. El objetivo es orientar las acciones de los museos hacia objetivos comunes y fomentar la cooperación entre el mundo de los ecomuseos y de los museos comunitarios. |
